Affordable homes given design award

A new Waverley Borough Council affordable housing development has won two Civic Design Awards from the Godalming Trust. [Published Thursday, 15 September 2016]

The development at The Church View, Station Road in Godalming was a winner in the New Building category and was also presented with the coveted Highly Commended Award, making it the overall winner of the design celebrations.

The development, designed by Churchill Hui Architects and being built by W. Stirland Limited, includes 14 high quality, affordable properties with eight two-bed flats, two two-bed houses and four three-bed houses.

The buildings are nearing completion and will soon be occupied by Waverley residents currently on the housing register.

The Godalming Trust is a voluntary organisation promoting high standards of planning, conservation and regeneration for the benefit of the local community in Godalming and Farncombe. It exists to bring together all who are interested in the town and its environs, aiming to stimulate interest in their history and character, and to promote a healthy sustainable balance between preservation of ancient buildings and new developments in building and landscaping.

The Godalming Trust Civic Design Awards are awarded biennially to outstanding design of new buildings, sympathetic restoration of old buildings, enhancements to the environment and general ambience of the area.
